The day I took my mom to a gun show...

Yesterday, I received a call from my mother (who has never been much for firearms) to see if I would want to go with her to the gun show in Kansas City.  Say what?  Me? You? Of course, I said yes and jumped in my car.  To see her at all of the exhibits with a look of genuine interest sent me into extreme pride.  It wasn't until I became passionate about firearms that she finally let her guard down and started to learn more about them.
Before my interest, she viewed firearms as a horrible thing.  My uncle was killed at a young age by the mishandling of a firearm and my dad was shot in the back by mishandling of a firearm.  There's a pattern in there.  Someone was mishandling a firearm.  Of course there's going to be anxiety and frustration with an instrument that was used to harm or kill someone you hold dear to your heart.  However, you can't take someone's ignorance and place blame on the firearm.  The gun did not engage on itself.
At most gun shows, you can talk in depth about the handling and characteristics of each firearm.  I saw exhibits from self-defense for women to tactical-style firearms.  There's such a broad spectrum of booths at gun shows.  I think that's why I like it.  Each booth is different.  You see different firearms everywhere and are able to get a feel for each one in your hand.
Since I love gun shows, I decided to put some information on the blog about the upcoming ones in the Kansas and Missouri area.
